ServerWatch (Version PRE 0.9.0 Beta) is now available, and includes Call of Duty support.
ServerWatch is a program to control and administrate an MoH (Medal of Honor) [and now Call of Duty] Server. You can (and should) setup a lot of options to let ServerWatch keep your server clean and log stats. The program is useable for MoHAA (Medal of Honor: Allied Assault) Servers. (It also should work on Spearhead, the add-on of MoHAA) The ServerWatch program itself is also a small server for the ServerWatch-Clients so that you can have several admins at one server at the same time without any conflicts or performance problems for the MoHAA Server.
ServerWatch has an AntiCheat functionality included that helps the make your Server Cheat free. ServerWatch tracks down Cheaters by running a program on the players computer what send all needed information to a ServerWatch Server (what is setup from the Admin of the game server). That Server will check the player computer if it is cheat free. How that part of ServerWatch is working will not be described in that Readme file. Visit the Homepage to get more Information.
ServerWatch project consist of 3 programs.
1: ServerWatch itself. That’s the Server what connect to the Game Server
and monitor that one.
2: ServerWatch AntiCheat Client is the AntiCheat client that runs on the
Player PC.
3: ServerWatch Client is that Client that is for ServerAdmins. So
everybody can connect to ServerWatch Server and not to the Game Server.
So the main admin can set individual rights for every other admin and
don’t have to publish the rcon password.

SpikeTV (formerly TNN) recently held the first annual Video Game Awards, a major awards ceremony for the developers and producers of today's best games.
Although the VGA's were noticably biased towards consoles, Call of Duty managed to beat the odds and come away with the award for 'Best First Person Shooter'! Congrats to Infinity Ward and Activision--Not only did you live up to the all pre-release hype, you made it look like a huge understatement.
Miss the VGA's? SpikeTV will be replaying it on the following dates:
Dec 6, 2003 @ 7:00PM EST
Dec 8, 2003 @ 11:00PM EST
Dec 13, 2003 @ 3:00PM EST

PlanetOTB has a more literal version of "Aimbot" up at their site. Along with a picture and description there is also a download which is also good for a laugh.
Not necessarily Call of Duty related, but funny none-the-less.
I hope everyone in the US of A had a great Thanksgiving, and are enjoying a nice long weekend away from the daily grind :)

You, the mapping community has spoken, and we have heard you loud and clear. The Call of Duty Mapping Contest will be extended past the original 30 day timeframe.
Why has it been extended? Many casual mappers have expressed their concern that 30 days simply isn't enough time. We want you to be able to put out the best map possible, so we are extending the contest an additional 45 days, which puts the deadline at February 4th, 2004 (Mark your calendar!).

With the recent release of the CoD Radiant mapping tools, Call of Duty Xtreme has decided to celebrate with a mapping contest!
The winner will be the lucky recipient of a pair of E-Dimensional 3D Glasses! Wouldn't it be cool to play your winning map in 3D? ;)
----------
Rules/guidelines for the CoDX Mapping Contest:
- Contest will run exactly 75 days (February 4th, 2004), which should give new mappers enough time to familiarize themselves with CoD Radiant and still have time to put out a good map.
- Map must be of your own creative nature. No ports of existing maps from MOH, RTCW, etc.
- Map must be playable under at least 2 game modes. The more versitile the map, the better.
- Adding in your own custom prefabs and textures are an added plus.
- Maps will be judged on overall appearance, creativity, scalability, performance, and of course how fun it is to play.
- Submit entries via email to mapcontest. Can't email your file? Let me know with an email, or find me (demonrage) on IRC at irc.gamesnet.net #callofduty or #codmapping and we'll make arrangements to get the file in our hands!
----------
Hopefully the 30 day time frame is an extra incentive to many of you who may get a little discouraged (myself included) from trying to learn just how to get going and put together a good map.
Need help getting started with CoD Radiant? CodeAlliance has a very nice list of tutorials to help you get through just about everything you'll need to know, from square one.
Need additional help or just want to hang with the rest of the mapping community? Join us on IRC at IRC.GamesNet.net #codmapping
Need an IRC client? Head to www.mirc.com to grab one!
Have a question? Post in the contest forum thread or Email us!

For those of you with ATI Radeon based cards, and are suffering from crashes or system hangs from playing Call of Duty, ATI has issued a hotfix (basically a prelude to 3.10). Below is the official 411 from ATI:
Call of Duty: system hangs or VPU recover error messages playing game
This issue affects the following configurations:
RADEON 9500 Series
RADEON 9600 Series
RADEON 9700 Series
RADEON 9800 Series
CATALYST 3.8 and later drivers
Some users have reported that after the game is launched, the system may hang or produce a VPU recover error.
Other boards may be affected.
Head over to ATI.com today to download the hotfix.
**NOTE: Many users may opt to continue using Catalyst 3.7 because it has proven to be the most stable, and was used for optimizing and testing of Call of Duty prior to release. ATI also does not recommend installing this hotfix unless you are experiencing the above mentioned problems.

As you may have already heard, the Call of Duty mapping tools and a modding FAQ have been tentatively scheduled for release no later than today (We will keep you updated with the actual release as more information becomes available). Here's a snippet from Grant explaining:
The map editor should be out to the community no later then Wednesday the 19th. We are working on a Q&A on what modders can do without the SDK. A lot of time was spent putting as much functionality as possible in script form, so that modders wouldn't need an SDK. This adds all sorts of modding freedom, without fear of introducing "hard to find" code bugs. If-and-when we see a modder taking their projects in some strange direction we didn't foresee, then we willup the underlying code to them on a mod-by-mod basis. If we were to put the SDK out right now, a lot of people would miss all of the mod-friendly stuff we have done and unintentionally make their work harder.
So lets start hearing from you Dev Teams out there, and let us know what you have to put on the table.
(Thanks, IWNation)

Another review you say? I can't believe it! ;)
GamingNext has recently reviewed Call of Duty. Here's a snippet from the review:
Aiming is movement related so attempting to run and fire will find your aim to be far worse. However, even when I was at full sprint with the Thompson I could hold down the trigger and firing at full auto still hit a majority of targets. Chalk it up to a great American automatic rifle.
This is one of the more solid reviews I have read lately, so even if you already have the game it may be worth the read.

Well heres the thing, GTK Radiant is probably the greatest editor out there by far...and yes thats my personal bias I guess...but having made a map or two in my time...(none published) I feel that there is none better than "R".
So you want to make a map for CoD that absolutely
kiks booty; well heres your chance to do it...from the ground up:)
Currently "R" is looking for some help in the CoD area, so if you have what it takes::......We got many requests asking wether we were going to support Call Of Duty. We haven't precisely evaluated what amount of work is necessary to get CoD support in. We'd like to support it obviously, but all the Radiant developers are busy elsewhere. Recent support for Enemy Territory and Jedi Academy was fairly easy to get done, as the companies used GtkRadiant and we only had to put things together when the games got out. We would welcome new developers to help us add CoD support, just step forward and do it :-)
SO give them a shoutout and say hell yeah!...I wanna help set up Radiant support for CoD!
Whoever decides to jump on this please let me know...cuz I wanna start mappin again:)

GeForceGaming has just done a quick and dirty "review" of Call of Duty. Why the quotes? Well because frankly it's more like a direct comparison to Battlefield 1942, and what the reviewer liked more/less about it.
I will refrain from posting snippets to avoid a "CoD vs. BF42" controversy here, but do feel free to head over to GeForceGaming and check out the review. ;)

The guys at Penny Arcade have been hittin up the multiplayer Call of Duty servers lately, and did a comic today for it (damn funny as always).
For anyone who hasn't yet visited this site (They post new comics without fail on Mon, Wed, and Fri), I HIGHLY recommend checking it out. Created and maintained by 2 no-nonsense gamers, PA shows us all the hilarious aspects of gaming that non-gamers just wouldn't understand. Oh and be sure to read the daily news posts as well, they provide alot of insight into the daily comics ;)

A petition has been started pleaing for future PunkBuster support in Call of Duty multiplayer.
PunkBuster is a popular, continuously updated anti-cheat game addon that is well known and respected in competition for communities such as Return To Castle Wolfenstein, Soldier of Fortune 2, Quake 3, and R6:Raven Shield.
Cheating is one of those things that no honest player would ever condone. Just about every FPS out there needs anti-cheat protection, and punkbuster is at the head of the class.
While petitions do not always turn enough heads to make an immediate change, it's always respectable to show your support for an excellent game that is nothing short of deserving fair online play. Head on over and sign the petition today, it won't bite ;)

Noginn dropped us a line to tell us about his new player config builder (not for servers, sorry =[ ).
This is a great way to get a nice tweaked config without doing alot of messing around with console commands, especially if you aren't very familiar with doing it.
Head to Noginn's Config Builder to build your own config today!
* CoDX recommends backing up your config_mp.cfg file before making any kind of changes. In the event of a problem that causes the game to act strangely or not work at all, you can simply copy your working config back in place.
